Helping Local Land Trust Go Green

Eco Power's expert grant-writer and solar designer Steve Fortuna and others began working with the Lake Claire Community Land Trust (LCCLT) in December of last year. The goal: to get grant funding for LCCLT to test their soil and install solar power to Greenly supply all their energy needs.

The garden is now watered by a solar powered well with a large water tank at the top of the hill, which then uses gravity to deliver the water. Our soil testing is to ensure no toxins were left over from previous corporate and industrial uses, and make the garden space certified organic.

The solar power array is to be placed on the embankment overlooking Dekalb Ave., which will receive full sunlight. The solar array will allow LCCLT to operate independent of traditional means of power, so they can power their events and facilities with 100% Green, renewable energy. This would add even more brightness to their already shining example of eco-friendly, community living.

The first grant for the soil testing was sent off in February and will, hopefully, be awarded in April, while the solar installation will have to await future grants.
