We're In Business! Installing Radiant Energy Barrier

Recently, Eco Power has begun installing Radiant Energy Barriers on homes. These E-Sheild barriers block 97% of all radiant energy. That dramatically reduces the energy bills of one's home: about 20 - 40%!

Eco Power partnered with Georgia Energy Management to fulfill the jobs they get and also the ones we get. It is a solid and mutually beneficial partnership. Together we will be increasing home energy efficiency in dozens of homes around northern Atlanta.

This opportunity gives Eco Power some regular and energy-saving work, which will build up our revenue and enable us to bring Green technologies further. Our principle aim after taking care of certain necessities is to pay for solar training, so we will be certified to fulfill solar thermal and solar power installations.

Good news for Eco Power is good news for the environment!

Thanks for your support.

Lights Off for Earth Hour 2010

EARTH HOUR 2010

On March 27th at 8:30 p.m., Atlanta's skyline will be going dark. Welcome to Earth Hour Atlanta 2010! The annual global Earth Hour event is organized by the World Wildlife Fund to raise awareness about Global Climate Change. In 2009, more than 300 U.S. cities joined the Earth Hour movement. This year we want to make Atlanta a top participant and grow involvement. This is the third year for Atlanta and it is an easy, fun way for people to get involved and make a difference.

What you can do:

1) Take the pledge at: https://www.myearthhour.org/home to turn off the lights on March 27th from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m.

2) Tell a friend

Helping Local Land Trust Go Green

Eco Power's expert grant-writer and solar designer Steve Fortuna and others began working with the Lake Claire Community Land Trust (LCCLT) in December of last year. The goal: to get grant funding for LCCLT to test their soil and install solar power to Greenly supply all their energy needs.

The garden is now watered by a solar powered well with a large water tank at the top of the hill, which then uses gravity to deliver the water. Our soil testing is to ensure no toxins were left over from previous corporate and industrial uses, and make the garden space certified organic.

The solar power array is to be placed on the embankment overlooking Dekalb Ave., which will receive full sunlight. The solar array will allow LCCLT to operate independent of traditional means of power, so they can power their events and facilities with 100% Green, renewable energy. This would add even more brightness to their already shining example of eco-friendly, community living.

The first grant for the soil testing was sent off in February and will, hopefully, be awarded in April, while the solar installation will have to await future grants.

The Battle for Your Light Socket

We hear a lot these days about replacing our old bulbs with fluorescents in order to combat "Global Warming" and save money on energy bills. The problem is, these bulbs are far from perfect. They contain mercury, a highly toxic element to the environment. There is another intriguing alternative, LED light bulbs. They are not an obvious choice either, despite the fact that they last 40% longer than fluorescents and use less than 1/10th of the power. Although they would save significant money in the long run, the $30 or so cost of individual bulbs takes them out of the equation for most people, and the blue-hued light is uncomfortable for some. I will try an LED first to see how I like the light. If the light is comfortable to me, than even at $30 a pop I'll buy more because I'll make my money back soon on the money it will save on the electric bill. Will you be a die-hard incandescent user or make a switch? Why?

Changes

We're making a few changes to the site over the next week or so, please bear with us as our information shifts around a bit. We're adding content that will allow readers to find the resources for the services we provide, so that we can move into our true role as informers as well as service providers.

The GreenLight Expo in Morrow on Saturday was a big success for Eco Power, as we were the only non-profit energy resource there, among other providers like Clayton County Water and, yes, Georgia Power. We generated a lot of interest, and hope we can attend more of these kinds of gatherings!

Just one step closer to a greener world,
